Reconnect Program Awards Announced By Biden-Harris Administration

Yesterday, the USDA announced $502 million in loans and grants through the ReConnect Program. The third round of funding through the program enhances high-speed internet access in rural areas across 20 states. The program, appropriated by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), supports the construction of, or acquisition of, broadband facilities and equipment to improve access to quality internet in eligible rural areas. The fourth round of funding for the ReConnect Program is now open for additional applications. The deadline for the current round of funding is November 2.
SMART Grants Now Open

The program was established to provide grants to eligible public sector agencies to conduct demonstration projects focused on advanced smart community technologies and systems to improve transportation efficiency and safety.

Agencies establish Partnerships to Improve Access to BIL Funding for Small Businesses

On Tuesday, the DOT Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU), the Small Business Administration (SBA), and the DoC Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) announced a renewed effort to support American businesses of all levels by establishing a partnership between agencies. Dedicated to ensuring that small and disadvantaged businesses benefit from the BIL funding, the agencies are working closely to actualize this effort. Upon this announcement, a public forum was hosted by the DOT, featuring multiple panels of representatives from the Biden-Harris Administration, including DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg, SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman, and DoC for Minority Business Development Under Secretary Don R Cravins Jr. The forum also had a “Business Matchmaking” session, allowing small business owners to hear first-hand from Administration officials about how they can strategically position the promotion of their business to state and federal agencies for funding.
