DOE Announces $590 Million To Increase Bioenergy Research
March 17, 2023 | Source: DOE
Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $590 million to renew its four existing Bioenergy Research Centers (BRCs). This funding will help support the Department’s research into the next generation of sustainable, cost-effective bioproducts and bioenergy from domestic biomass resources, which is critical to reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring future energy security, and creating new economic opportunities in rural areas. Each of the four centers, led by a National Laboratory or University, support the science behind a bio-based economy and aims to break down the barriers to building a strong domestic bioenergy industry.
Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program Now Open
March 14, 2023 | Source: DOT
On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation opened applications for The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program (CFI Program), a new program that will establish publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure nationwide. Created by the BIL, the program awards competitive grants to projects that will accelerate an electrified and alternative fuel transportation system that is convenient, affordable, reliable, equitable, accessible, and safe. A priority of the CFI Program is expanding EV charging into all types of residential areas while also addressing environmental justice, particularly for communities that disproportionately experience the consequences from climate change. This round of funding makes up to $700 million available through the program’s two funding opportunities: Community Charging and Fueling Grants (Community Program); and Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants (Corridor Program).

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $750 Million to Advance Clean Hydrogen Technologies
March 15, 2023 | Source: DOE
On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HTFO) released a $750 million Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for clean hydrogen technologies that will address barriers to cost reduction and support emerging commercial-scale deployments. Established by the BIL, this opportunity will provide funding for components, stacks, and systems across a range of electrolyzer technologies (including both low-temperature and high-temperature) and electrolyzer manufacturing processes and equipment. In addition, the FOA will support RD&D of technologies and processes for manufacturing the equipment used in the production, processing, delivery, storage, and use of clean hydrogen.
