DOE and EPA Partner to Support Reliable Electricity

On Thursday, DOE and EPA signed a Joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to guide new clean energy opportunities that will support access to reliable, affordable electricity and advance the United States toward the Biden-Harris Administration’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050. The MOU ensures that DOE and EPA can continue to support the ability of the power sector to maintain electric reliability and seize new reliability opportunities presented by clean energy advancement. The MOU will support the work of the two agencies as EPA develops new health and environmental protections for the power sector and as DOE works to implement President Biden’s historic investments in America, including resources for clean energy deployment and grid reliability and resilience from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.    

 

Biden-Harris Administration Recommends Advancing Eighteen Major Transit Projects

On Thursday, 18 large transit projects in 11 states were recommended to receive $4.45 billion for construction by U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. These large rail and bus rapid transit (BRT) projects were recommended to receive federal support in President Biden's FY 2024 Budget Request to Congress. Nine of those projects would receive funding recommendations for the first time. The listed projects, which require a local funding match, seek funding through the FTA Capital Investment Grants (CIG) and Expedited Project Delivery (EPD) Pilot programs. The report allocates $2.85 billion in annual appropriations requested from Congress and $1.6 billion in FY 2024 funding provided through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. 


FACT SHEET: The President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2024

On Thursday, President Biden released the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024. The budget outlines plans to “invest in America, lower costs and cut taxes for working families, and protect and strengthen Medicare and social security.” Regarding domestic infrastructure, The Budget invests $4.5 billion in clean energy across America, creating jobs to rural communities and cities, and developing a clean energy workforce development and sustainable infrastructure projects across the country, including $1.8 billion to weatherize and retrofit low-income Americans’ homes, and $83 million to electrify Tribal homes and transition Tribal Colleges and universities to renewable energy.  

 

Biden-Harris Administration Announces Availability of $16 Million for Pollution Prevention in Environmental Justice Communities

On Wednesday, EPA announced the availability of $16 million for two new grant opportunities to support states and Tribes in providing technical assistance to businesses seeking to develop and adopt pollution prevention (P2) practices that advance environmental justice in underserved communities. The Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice in Communities is a new P2 grant opportunity to support technical assistance for businesses to specifically target and improve human health and the environment in disadvantaged communities. Applications for this grant are due by June 6, 2023. The Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice Through Safer and More Sustainable Products will support P2 technical assistance to businesses to increase the supply, demand and or use of safer and more sustainable products, such as those that are certified by EPA’s Safer Choice program, or those that conform to EPA’s Recommendations for Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing. Applications for this grant are due by June 20, 2023. 

 

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $6 Billion To Drastically Reduce Industrial Emissions and Create Healthier Communities

On Wednesday, DOE announced approximately $6 billion in funding to accelerate decarbonization projects in energy-intensive industries and provide American manufacturers a competitive advantage in the emerging global clean energy economy. Funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act, the Industrial Demonstrations Program will focus on the highest emitting industries where decarbonization technologies will have the greatest impact, such as iron and steel, aluminum, cement and concrete, and other energy-intensive industrial processes. Widespread demonstration and deployment of decarbonization projects within these industries is key to achieving the President’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050 and will help strengthen and secure America’s global leadership in manufacturing for decades to come.

USDA Announces $29 Million to Increase American-Made Fertilizer Production

Today, USDA announced $29 million in grant offers under the first round of the The Biden-Harris Administration’s Fertilizer Production Expansion Program. The grants will help independent businesses increase production of American-made fertilizer, which will spur competition, give U.S. farmers more choices and fairer prices and reduce dependence on unreliable foreign sources.
