DOE Announces $50 Million for Tribal Clean Energy Projects
February 17, 2023 | Source: DOE
Today, DOE announced $50 million in funding to support clean energy technology deployment on Tribal lands. This significant investment will strengthen Tribal energy sovereignty by bolstering ongoing efforts to lower energy costs, increase energy security and resilience, and provide electric power to unelectrified buildings. DOE is soliciting applications from Indian Tribes, which include Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations to: 1) Install clean energy generating systems and/or energy efficiency measures for tribal buildings, 2) Deploy community-scale clean energy generating systems or community energy storage on tribal lands, 3) Install integrated energy systems for autonomous operation (independent of the traditional centralized electric power grid) to power a single or multiple essential tribal buildings during emergency situations or for tribal community resilience, and 4) Provide electric power to tribal buildings, which otherwise would be unelectrified. DOE anticipates issuing 10 to 25 awards ranging from $100,000 to $5 million, with applications due May 16, 2023.
DOT Announces New Standards and 2023 Discretionary Grant Program for EV Chargers
February 15, 2023 | Source: DOT
On Wednesday, DOT announced the latest actions to construct 500,000 EV chargers by 2030 and deliver a convenient, reliable, and Made-in-America electric vehicle (EV) charging network. DOT will be establishing universal standards for EV charging stations standards that will help to ensure that chargers operated by different networks will operate similarly and increase predictability. These standards will also require that chargers have consistent plug types and charging speeds, common payment systems, and accessible pricing information, locations, and availability. Additionally, the new Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will provide $2.5 billion over five years to a full range of applicants, including cities, counties, local governments, and Tribes. This round of funding will open soon, making $700 million from Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023 funding available to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and other fueling infrastructure projects in urban and rural communities in publicly accessible locations, including downtown areas and local neighborhoods, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged communities.
EPA Announces Initial Program Design of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund
February 14, 2023 | Source: EPA
On Tuesday, EPA announced initial guidance on the design of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) program. Created by the Inflation reduction Act, EPA plans to award nearly $27 billion under two competitions to leverage private capital for clean energy and clean air investments across the country. The grant funding will be distributed under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund: a $20 billion general and low-income assistance competition, and a $7 billion zero-emissions technology fund competition. EPA will implement these programs in alignment with President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, which directs that 40% of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities. In addition, EPA announced a national Community Roundtable series focused on introducing the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to communities across the country and learning about community-level solutions that the Fund can support. EPA expects to being accepting applications for the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund by summer 2023.
USDA Announces Availability of Inflation Reduction Act Funding for Climate-Smart Agriculture Nationwide
February 13, 2023 | Source: USDA
On Wednesday, USDA announced available funding for agricultural producers and forest landowners nationwide to participate in voluntary conservation programs and adopt climate-smart practices. The IRA funding includes an additional $8.45 billion for EQIP, $4.95 billion for RCPP, $3.25 billion for CSP, and $1.4 billion for ACEP. These additional investments are estimated to help hundreds of thousands of farmers and ranchers apply conservation to millions of acres of land. Additionally, the IRA provides $300 million to quantify carbon sequestration and greenhouse gases (GHG) through the collection and use of field-based data to assess conservation outcomes.
Featured Awards:
DOE Funding for Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Corridors
February 15, 2023 - The DOE-funded projects will focus on electrification plans for essential and heavily trafficked domestic freight corridors, including those serving Northern and Southern California, the Eastern Seaboard, the Northeast, Southwest, and much of the Midwest. The projects, administered by DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO) and Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office (HFTO), will advance the President’s decarbonization goals by accelerating the deployment of medium- and heavy-duty EV charging and refueling infrastructure to reduce emissions from freight corridors and the depots, ports, and other facilities those corridors service.
USDA Awards $262 Million through Rural Partners Network
February 15, 2023 - The Rural Partners Network (RPN) supports rural communities to expand rural prosperity through job creation, infrastructure development, and community improvement. USDA awarded 68 projects in Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Puerto Rico. Awarded projects will create jobs in rural areas, provide affordable homes for seniors and low-income families, help farmers and ranchers transition to clean energy, and provide access to modern water and wastewater systems.
