DOE Announces $8.8 Million to Support Local Governments with their Clean Energy Goals

On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced the availability of $8.8 million in funding through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Competitive Program. Funded through the BIL, the EECBG Competitive Program supports local governments and state-recognized Tribes to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and reduce overall energy use. This program is offered to those that were ineligible for the program’s formula grant. DOE expects to make 10-20 awards ranging from $200,000 to $2 million, serving 20-50 communities. Concept papers are due June 5, 2023.
DOL announces $80 Million in Funding Available to Develop, Strengthen, Scale Equitable Pathways to Good Infrastructure Jobs

On Wednesday, the Department of Labor (DOL) announced the availability of $80 million in funding through the Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Grant Program to fund workforce development projects that support renewable energy, transportation, and broadband infrastructure sectors. To support the recent rapid increase of infrastructure-related projects due to the funding provided from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS and Science Act, the program aims to prepare and train workers in advanced manufacturing, IT, and professional, scientific, and technical service occupations. Nonprofits, labor organizations, public and state institutions of higher education, economic and workforce entities, and state, county and local governments are eligible to apply for grants, ranging from $500,000 to $5 million. Applications are due Jul7 07, 2023.
DOE Announces $450 Million To Deploy Clean Energy Projects on Mine Lands

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced up to $450 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to advance clean energy demonstration projects mine lands. DOE is seeking projects that demonstrate: 1) Replicable pathways that resolve key barriers to expanded clean energy development on mine land, 2) Preservation of natural and agricultural resources through repurposing mine land for clean energy projects, and 3) Benefits of integrating clean energy facilities on mine land to mine operations, local energy infrastructure, and to the mining communities themselves. A maximum of five projects, ranging from $10 million to $150 million, will be awarded, with a minimum of two awards dedicated to solar projects. Concept papers are due May 11, 2023, and full applications are due August 31, 2023.
DOT Announces First-Ever Program to Improve Safety on America’s Roadways by Preventing Wildlife-Vehicle Collisions

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the Wildlife Crossings Program, a new program from the BIL that aims to reduce wildlife vehicle collisions. FHWA will award both non-construction and construction projects under the program, including research on safety innovations, mapping and tracking tools, the design and construction of overpasses and underpasses, and more. Projects that reduce wildlife vehicle collisions and improve habitat connectivity for terrestrial and aquatic species will be prioritized. Applications are due August 1, 2023.

$20 Million to Modernize 29 Airport Control Towers Across the U.S.
April 6, 2023 | Source: FAA - The Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced $20 Million from The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 29 airport owned traffic control towers across the U.S. The funding will be used to upgrade and build control towers in small towns and at regional airports.
