City of West Monroe Awarded $20,000 through 2024 AARP Community Challenge
Flagship Grant will enhance and increase accessibility at Kiroli Park

Washington, D.C. — Capitol Funding Solutions (CFS) is pleased to announce that a proposal written for the City of West Monroe, Louisiana, was awarded a $20,000 Flagship Grant through the 2024 AARP Community Challenge grant program. This round of funding was very competitive; Of the 3,350+ applications nationwide, only 343 projects (10%) were selected for awards. Over $3.8 million was awarded for the eighth-annual Challenge to invest in public places, transportation, housing, and more.
ABOUT THE AWARDED PROJECT:
Project Title: Kiroli Park Botanical Gardens
Project Location: West Monroe
The funding will be used to help West Monroe complete a botanical garden at Kiroli Park, ensuring accessibility and safety for all visitors, especially older adults. Established in 1925 and encompassing 150 acres, Kiroli Park offers playgrounds, a conservatory, a dog park, tennis courts, gardens, picnic areas, fishing ponds, and hiking trails, with unique features like suspension bridges and observation towers. The new garden will feature local plants, waterfalls, and benches, providing a serene gathering place for people of all ages to enjoy nature. The botanical garden installation aligns with West Monroe's Master Plan, which emphasizes outdoor recreation as a cultural cornerstone.
