Charleston County Awarded $1.2 Million to Enhance EMS Response Systems

Funding Will Implement Advanced CAD-to-CAD System for Traffic Safety Planning

Washington, D.C. — Capitol Funding Solutions (CFS) is pleased to announce that a proposal written for Charleston County, SC, was awarded $1,292,615 through the Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. This funding will support the implementation of a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD)-to-CAD system to reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. 

 

ABOUT THE PROJECT:   

The Charleston County 911 project will implement an advanced CAD-to-CAD system to improve communication and coordination among emergency services. By connecting dispatch systems across multiple jurisdictions, the system will enable real-time data sharing and coordination among fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies. This initiative will focus on demonstration and planning activities to optimize response times and interagency collaboration, aiming to reduce fatalities and serious injuries in traffic-related incidents.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:   

The Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program is aimed at reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries across the country. Established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, SS4A provides funding to local, regional, and tribal jurisdictions to develop and implement comprehensive safety action plans. The program supports projects that create safer streets and improve road infrastructure, prioritizing community-driven approaches to enhance the safety of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
